Marble Countertop Fabrication
Located in Springfield, Vermont, LBL Fabrications is a leader in marble natural stone fabrication. The most common types of natural stone include marble, granite, quartzite, and soapstone which are sourced from all over the world and come in all variations of color, pattern, finish, density, and porosity.
Marble can offer a wide variety of colors, veining, patterns, and elegance to your project. Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, vanities, back splashes, front desks displays, and more. LBL Fabrications has fabricated and installed marble natural stone projects in both residential and commercial applications.
Marble
Marble is a beautiful metamorphic natural stone composed primarily of carbonate minerals such as calcite and dolomite. The color and pattern on every block of marble are unique to that piece. Rich colors are caused by additional minerals such as silt, iron oxides, or magnesium. The number of options and overall aesthetics make marble highly sought after for countertop applications.
Marble is a relatively sensitive material in that it requires effort to keep it in perfect shape. The maintenance pays off by having beautiful bespoke natural materials in your home or business.
Many of LBL Fabrications' Marble selection is sourced locally in Mondon, Vermont from Danby Quarry, the world's largest underground marble quarry. We also provide exquisite marble selection directly from Italy for your selection.
Beauty of Natural Stone
This beautifully patterned marble, quarried in Danby, Vermont, is a metamorphic rock formed when limestone is exposed to high heat and pressure over millions of years, creating an interlocking mosaic of carbonate crystals. Marble's understated elegance and sophistication is perfect for anyone looking to showcase the gorgeous end result of millions of years of geological forces. This is just one example of the beautiful stone sourced by LBL in our natural stone fabrication process.
Marble Maintenance & Care
Prevention is the key to keeping marbles looking new. Marble is more susceptible to staining and etching, because of the calcium carbonate component in the stone. Some liquids can etch the marble surface, even if the liquid is cleaned up immediately. In general, embrace the patina and minor imperfections marble countertops gain over the years.
Here are a few basic tips for marble countertop cleaning and care:
- Clean up spills- oil and acidic foods such as tomato sauce, wine, coffee, fruit juice, and soda can cause staining or etching if left to sit.
- Keep marble dry- Hard water can etch countertop due to minerals in the water.
- When marble stone cleaners are not available, use a damp sponge or microfiber cloth with warm water and mild dish soap to clean minor spills and loosen dirt.
- Avoid cleaners with ammonia, vinegar, and bleach. These can break down the sealer over time.
- Use a hot pad or trivet under very hot pots or pans when placing them on the countertops. Use a coaster or placemat for drinks and plates to prevent accidental spills.
- Always use a cutting board on your marble surface.
Staining & Etching
Marble Staining
Although all countertops are sealed prior to installation, a marble may stain when a substance is absorbed into the pores of the marble. For added protection, we advise that all marble countertops be sealed with an advanced sealer designed to provide maximum protection on natural stone against the toughest oil and water-based stains. CR also offers a 25-year stain protection warranty, which is available at an additional cost.
Marble Etching
Etching is physical damage to the stone caused by contact with certain substances. Substances containing acids, such as juice, coffee, citrus, wine will immediately etch the marble. Etching is not a stain, it is a corrosive reaction which strips away the surface layer revealing raw marble. The etching will appear duller, and lighter in color. Sealers will not protect marble from etching.

The Fabrication Process
1. Templating
Once your project has been scheduled for template, LBL will send one of its skilled template technicians out to your project site to take detailed digital measurements that are then used to construct a digital template of your natural stone or solid surface project. We utilize state-of-the-art Laser Products LT-2D3D digital templating systems which deliver efficient, precise, and comprehensive results with advanced CNC integration for seamless communication of template outputs to our fabrication environment.
2. Preproduction
During the preproduction/programming process, we take pictures of the slab to be fabricated and overlay digital template files to identify the best yield and best output. For slabs that have veining or other distinguishing characteristics, we utilize special digital software to analyze and optimally organize the pieces to be cut so that we can create a seamless looking end-product with matched veining. It is also during this stage that our robotic software determines where to utilize saw cutting and where to utilize waterjet cutting for extreme precision.
3. Cutting
Once pre-programming has been completed, the cutting program is recorded by our Baca Robotic Saw-jet, which is a dual-table set-up that allows us to stage multiple slabs at a time. After our technician presses go, our robot swings to life and, with a high level of quality and precision, will cut the project slabs in a matter of minutes. Not only does this set us apart from our competition by vastly increasing our production volumes, we also are able to eliminate a great deal of human error in the process. In theory, we can receive a digital template, cut, polish, and deliver your natural stone or solid surface project for install within 24-48 hours.
4. routing
Once the robot has completed the cutting process, we move relevant pieces to the Northwood CNC Fabcenter for routing. It is in this step that we take raw edges and shape the material to match the desired edge of the customer. Many of our competitors only use hand-held routers, which often result in uneven edge finishes with visible imperfections. Our CNC has a wide number of router tooling which enables us to create a wide variety of edge details to suit the tastes of all of our customers and does so in a manner that guarantees a flawless final product, free of any unevenness.
5. polishing
In the final step of the process, the pieces are moved from the router to our polishing center where a team of experienced polishers run pieces through our FASTBACK precision edge polisher and then through a seven-step process including our Seam Phantom, to put the finishing touches on the all outside perimeter and inside edges to ensure a beautiful final product. We also examine the surface of all of the finished materials to identify any natural imperfections or pores which may need to be treated with an epoxy insertion. Our quality control technician inspects all pieces for fit and finish before moving the project pieces onto loading racks for delivery and installation.
6. installation
We have dedicated installation crews who will travel to the project site to complete the physical install of the fabricated pieces. Our scheduler will be in contact with you to ensure our teams arrive within the scheduled window. An installation may take anywhere between two and six hours depending on the size and type of project.
